HENRY MILLER: TO PAINT IS TO LOVE AGAIN and other musings on life ... "don't you know" The Preview Edition DVD
In this thing I'm just playing. I'm just having a good time. it is a very important thing in life, that people learn how to play, and that they make life a game rather than a struggle, you know, for goals.” Few people know that the famous author of Tropic of Cancer was an accomplished and respected painter who completed over 3000 watercolors in his lifetime. In his own words and persona, and through rare and never before released footage and audio, this film offers an unprecedented glimpse into the mind and heart of one of America’s greatest authors and artists.
This is one of several unfinished films that Robert Snyder began some years ago. Taking their cue from a 25-minute rough-cut that Snyder left in his vaults Jaime Snyder, his son, and John Ferry, a long-time associate of the Snyders have crafted a 54-minute version that preserves both the style and spirit of Snyder’s earlier documentaries.
Painting, like his writing, was a metaphor for living life to the fullest. And few people have lived with as much zest and passion as Henry Miller.
“. . .hardly anybody that I know of in my whole experience could tell me truly that he enjoys life to the hilt you see? And this, I think, is catastrophic. Because if we are not here to enjoy life what are we here for? “

Excerpt from "The Taillor Ship," Black Spring:
No one knew that Tante Melewas going completely off her nut, that when we reached the corner she would leap forward like a reindeer and bite a piece of the moon. At the corner she leaped forward like a reindeer and she shrieked. "The moon, the moon!" she cried, and with that her sould broke loose, jumped clean out of her body...out, out to the moon, and nobody could think quick enough to stop it. Just like that it happened. In a twinkle of a star.
